Restoring Communication • Establishing Accountability • Creating a Path Forward

Sankofa Mediation & Resolution Services provides a structured, neutral space for individuals, families, couples, community members, organizations, ministries, and leadership teams experiencing conflict, communication breakdowns, unresolved grievances, or relational transitions.

The purpose of mediation is not to determine who is the “right” person or the “wrong” person. It is to bring what has been unresolved into a space where it can be acknowledged, communicated, understood, and where possible resolved.

Our approach recognizes that conflict often exists beneath the argument itself. Hurt, unmet expectations, unclear boundaries, broken agreements, unspoken truths, power imbalances, lack of accountability, and ineffective communication can all contribute to continued division.

Through guided mediation, each person is given the opportunity to speak, listen, clarify their experience, identify their needs, acknowledge their responsibilities, and determine what resolution can realistically look like.

What the Mediation Process Provides

The mediation space may include:

  • Individual intake and preparation before mediation
  • Identification of the central conflict and unresolved issues
  • Facilitated communication between parties
  • Establishment of respectful communication agreements
  • Opportunity for each person to be heard without interruption
  • Clarification of misunderstandings and differing perspectives
  • Identification of harmful patterns and recurring points of conflict
  • Accountability for agreements, actions, and responsibilities
  • Boundary establishment and renegotiation
  • Exploration of possible solutions
  • Development of mutually understood agreements
  • Reconciliation planning when reconciliation is appropriate
  • Peaceful separation or closure when reconciliation is not appropriate
  • Follow-up mediation and accountability sessions when needed

Areas of Mediation

Services may be offered for:

Family & Relationship Mediation
Conflict between spouses, partners, parents, adult children, siblings, relatives, and extended family.

Community Mediation
Disagreements between community members, friends, neighbors, members of spiritual communities, and individuals who must continue sharing communal space.

Ministry & Spiritual Community Mediation
Leadership disagreements, interpersonal conflict, breaches of community expectations, communication breakdowns, accountability concerns, and restoration processes.

Leadership & Organizational Mediation
Conflict between leaders, team members, volunteers, committees, business partners, and organizational stakeholders.

Restorative Mediation
A facilitated process centered on acknowledging harm, understanding impact, accepting responsibility where appropriate, establishing boundaries, and determining what restoration requires.

Transition & Closure Mediation
For situations where remaining in relationship is no longer the desired outcome. Resolution does not always mean reconciliation. Sometimes resolution means creating clarity, establishing boundaries, fulfilling responsibilities, and allowing everyone involved to move forward peacefully.
